FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

How much does wine storage cost?
At The Wine Box, professional wine storage in Los Angeles ranges from $21 to $30 per case per year. By-the-case storage is $30/case/year, lockers run $23–$28/case/year depending on size, and walk-in rooms start at $21/case/year. A one-time admin fee may apply at sign-up.
What is the ideal temperature for wine storage?
The widely accepted ideal wine storage temperature is around 55°F (12–13°C) with relative humidity near 60–70%. Just as important as the number is stability — avoiding swings is what protects long-term aging. Our subterranean cellar holds a continuous 55°F with redundant refrigeration and automated alerts on any deviation.
What counts as professional, climate-controlled wine storage?
A professional wine storage facility maintains a stable cellar-grade temperature (around 55°F), controlled humidity, low light, and low vibration year-round, with monitored security and disaster-recovery systems. Home wine fridges and garage racks rarely meet all of those conditions, especially in Southern California summers.
What is offsite wine storage and when does it make sense?
Offsite wine storage means keeping your collection at a dedicated facility instead of at home. It typically makes sense once a collection outgrows a wine fridge, when you want long-term aging conditions you can't reliably create at home, or when you want a more secure, climate-stable environment for valuable bottles.
Is The Wine Box hard to find?
Intentionally, yes. Our facility is unmarked from the street — as one long-time member put it on Yelp, 'you would never know this place existed.' This discretion is part of how we protect our members' collections. All visitors come by appointment, and we give clear directions when your visit is scheduled.
Do I need an appointment to visit the facility?
Yes. All visits are scheduled by appointment to ensure privacy, security, and personalized service. This allows us to provide a discreet experience for every collector.
Is access available outside standard business hours?
Member access hours are listed below; private access can be arranged by appointment.
Do you serve collectors outside West Hills?
Yes. Our facility serves clients throughout Calabasas, Hidden Hills, Woodland Hills, Tarzana, Simi Valley, and the greater Los Angeles area. Simi Valley collectors are roughly a 20-minute drive via the 118 and Topanga Canyon Blvd, and we're just a short drive from Woodland Hills Wine Company on Ventura Blvd — convenient for collectors picking up bottles there and dropping them straight into storage.
I'm relocating from Simi Valley because of wildfire risk — can The Wine Box help?
Yes. We regularly take in collections from Simi Valley households evacuating or relocating due to fire risk. Our subterranean West Hills cellar sits below grade with natural thermal insulation, and we offer affordable by-the-case storage starting at $19/case/year (40–100 cases) so you can move bottles out of harm's way quickly without committing to a full locker. Call (818) 703-0090 and we'll prioritize intake and coordinate pickup if needed.
What makes your subterranean facility beneficial for wine storage?
Our underground environment provides natural thermal insulation, helping maintain stable cellar conditions year-round while reducing exposure to external temperature fluctuations common in Southern California.
Is the facility climate controlled?
Yes. We maintain professional cellar conditions with consistent temperature and humidity control to protect long-term collections.
Do you offer pickup or managed storage services?
Yes. In addition to private locker storage, we offer managed wine services including coordinated pickup, secure storage, inventory handling, and delivery upon request.
